Something was happening; and Viktor was not sure if he was being tricked or lied too; or if her getting lost really had shaken her deeply. Where was the little Mage who had pushed his chair over; and was willing to test and fight him? Not that he enjoyed the encounter; but to go from annoyingly defiant; to this weak and agreeable woman was discerning. Which was the real woman?
He was not used to being addressed with a titled; but didn't react when he heard it. He was a bloody king now; it was time to embrace such things. Lifting another slither of meat up to Artemis; he continued to watch her. Trying to figure out who she was; and how best to deal with her until her father came; and then how best to deal with her when there was no one coming to save her. What would she do; when pushed into a corner and only had herself to rely on.

Syren tried not to noticed the way he stared at her, watching her as though trying to figure out what she was. She ate her food silently, ignoring the talk of the men, she only paid heed to the mind of the bird, curiously probing the animal for information about her master. She was not just fond of the man; she was loyal and even adoring. She had been wild when he'd tamed her, and while food had driven the formation of their bond, there was more to it now. She cared about doing her job well, about keeping him alive. She even thought of herself by the name he'd given her... Artemis.
Musing on the bird's thoughts gave her something to think about besides the eyes of men upon her, although her eyes did flicker toward the King occasionally. The thoughts and feelings of his pet conflicted with how she saw him, and while she knew better than to trust the mind of a beloved pet over her own judgment, it gave her pause. And he didn't seem to be a cruel man... but he had still kidnapped her, and planned to keep her here. She would continue her own plans, to get out of here as soon as she could find a door, and hopefully when she did, some of her father's soldiers would be nearby to take her home.

Silence! The woman knew how to be silent! It was something at least! Deciding to ignore her; Viktor instead spoke with his second in command; a man who had befriended him here; and helped his rise to power. They spoke of some basic matters dealing with the kingdom. Hunting was needed daily; to feed all the people. Dirt had been stolen from some of the kingdoms and drug up here--an action that had cause some lives; but had allowed them to use one of the larger dinning rooms lower in the castle as a garden; and fires lit in the rooms to serve as heat for them to grow. Getting light to them was the challenge; and another matter of discussion.
The whole meal; Viktor kept feeding small scraps to Artemis; and would watch Syren as if trying to read her; trying to solve the mystery of who she was. The bold Mage who pushed him out of chairs; and seemed to try to out wit him; or the frightened meek princess who tried to please him. Had he not felt her wrath; and see her wit; he would believe her as his men did. Yet he could not help but to wonder of this was another game they would play.

The things Viktor and his men spoke of were of no interest to her, and she had no doubt that he would be smart enough not to discuss anything of importance in front of her. She caught snippets of the conversation, but for the most part, she conversed with the bird instead, having always preferred the company of animals to that of most humans. Artemis was happy here, that much was clear, and well-fed, if the way Viktor kept feeding her off his plate was any indication.
Artemis wanted to cheer her up, and as Syren ate, she found herself smiling at the things the bird showed her to convince her that things were not so bad as she thought...that Viktor was not so bad as she imagined. The bird's efforts were so successful that at one point, Syren burst out laughing, and then caught herself as the whole table turned to stare at her, and she met some of their gazes awkwardly. Looking down, she cleared her throat quietly, then looked up at the king. "May I be excused?"

Viktor's second in commend was in the middle of explaining something; right as Viktor picked up a scrap of meat; tore a bit off and lifted it up to the bird; and the stolen Lady Summer burst out with a laugh. For a moment he was confused; and only stared at her like she was mad. No one had spoken to her; nor had anything funny happen for no one seemed to be in on the joke. After a short silence; she asked to be excused. Was she mad; or had he been right in thinking that she was up to something?
After a long moment of only staring at her; he gestured for the older woman who had he sent to find her before supper. "Ensure our guest gets to her room; and stays there. Even if you have to take her dress away from her in order to keep her there." Then he reached for his mug of ale; then his bird. "I am going to let Artemis stretch her wings; find me if she gets lost again." Looking down at her; "And I will ensure she sleeps by my side to from now on to prevent it." She had reacted poorly at his earlier comments; so maybe this threat would keep her tucked in bed.

Even the servants at Summer Land couldn't quite get used to Syren's unheard conversations with the creatures around her, in all the years they'd known her, so she was kind of used to the wide eyed, open staring that accompanied a sudden outburst like that. Viktor wasn't the only one who was looking at her like she was mad, and she did her best to ignore it. She didn't want to tell them the reason she had laughed; the less they knew about her powers, the better.
She was pushing her chair back to leave when he looked down at her and made another lewd threat of what he would do to her if she disobeyed, and she glowered at him rebelliously before she turned around and strolled lightly out of the room, letting the older woman who had been assigned to take her to her room follow in her wake.
