Not safe. Not safe. Not safe. The thought ran through Syren's mind over and over again as she hurried through the city streets, clutching her baby against her chest and desperately searching for a place to stop, to hide. Every route she'd tried to take back to the castle had been blocked by rather mercenary looking fellows, who she could only assume had been set there to keep her from getting back to the castle where her husband and the rest of their forces could protect her.
One of the Sea King's ambassadors had offered to take her around the city's sights today, and she'd been only too happy to accept. He had been the first one to die when they attacked. One of the knights of Winter Land who had been protecting her had gotten her away from the battle and wrapped her in his cloak; Winter Land knights didn't have the finery of the South, so the simple brown cloak made her blend in with the others, and he had told her to run. She had, until she was out of sight, and then she'd walked, looking for a way back.
Now she was lost, and the streets were getting narrower, the people increasingly shadier, and Jaxon fussier and fussier. She kept trying to shush him, but she didn't dare stop to find a place to rock him back to sleep or comfort him, uncertain of the people around her. Who could she trust? How could she tell those who would kill her from those who might help?

Acting coin from the vendor who sold the fish that Terrowin caught; he then turned to begin the trip home. It would take him a little while to go home; but only because instead of going right home; he was lingering today. The fish had been good today; and he wanted to bring a rare sweet treat home to his family.
After purchasing the treat for his wife; Thea; he turned to join his family. On his way he noticed a young woman; she looked scared and very alone. Stopping; Terrowin watched her for a moment; and only seeing the cloak assumed she was a local; or someone in town tanks to all the new people who came for the peace talks. Walking closer; he approached her; "I could not help but to notice you look lost." Better lost; then telling her she looked scared. "Do you need someone to walk you home? Make sure you get there alright?" He wasn't a warrior; but he did not leave little girls; and small children; to fend for themselves.

She paused in what looked like a market, bouncing Jaxon on her hip to try and calm him, but apparently he was also picking up on her distress and so her efforts to soothe him did little to stopping his fussing. Syren was scared that if he started to really cry that it would draw more unwanted attention, and while becoming invisible used to be one of her strengths, she hadn't yet figured out how to do so with a crying baby in her arms.
Immediate relief flooded through her when she heard a familiar voice telling her she looked lost, and she was sure that he was messing with her but right now, she didn't care. "Viktor," she spoke before she had finished turning, a slight smile on her face that fell away into a look of shock as she saw the man who was actually in front of her.
At first glance, he looked nothing like her husband; hair long, white and grisled grey, with a long beard and lines on his face. But after only a few seconds she could see the resemblance; the same eyes, the same strong features, the same height, and, as she listened, the exact same voice. Viktor told her he was from the Sea King's Lands, but when they were coming here, he hadn't spoken of seeing his family, and she hadn't thought to ask. She was too worried about seeing her own family, along with the other royals, and now she found herself looking up at a man who could only be his father. "I-I'm sorry," she apologized for her mistaking his identity, still somewhat shocked by his face.

She spoke a name he had not been ready to here; and even Terrowin looked surprised at it. When she apologized; he wondered if she was running from; or running to this Viktor. It was now an overly common name; but he had met other Viktors. It was also when she turned that he noticed the clothing under the cloak; and the ones on the young boy. She was a noble; no wonder she looked so scared and lost.
"You do not need to apologize; my lady." He told her; bow his head deeply; and then looking back down at her when he stood back up to his height. "If you are lost; I can take you back home; or to the castle." He offered; again not telling her how scared she had looked here. He did not like that women and children were scared; but he knew that he could not cross that line; and offer more help then she would allow; or he could be blamed for things. "I am called Terrowin; and I am fisherman in this area. I lived not far from here with my wife. If you are uncomfortable being aided by a man alone; I can ask her or my daughter to walk with us."

He seemed surprised when she said her husband's name, but other than that, did not react. She wasn't sure if it was because the name was unfamiliar; maybe she was wrong in thinking he was Viktor's father? Maybe people in these lands all just looked alike? She didn't quite believe that, but she would not take the risk of exposing who she was without some inkling that he was who she thought. Even so... she felt like she could trust the kindly old man.
He offered to take her back to the castle, and she shook her head quickly. "I-I can't. They're looking for me," she didn't know quite how else she could explain; she had no idea who 'they' were. It was likely the assassins belonged to her mother, but it was also possible the Mountain King had sent them. He had sent an assassin to kill her father. "They might be waiting for me back at the castle." It was safer to wait for Viktor to realize she'd been gone and come to find her, but then she'd have to hide until he came.
"Terrowin... I do not wish to put your family in danger. Do you know of somewhere I can hide?" Maybe an empty building, or a cave by the sea? Somewhere they wouldn't think to look for her, where others would not be hurt on her behalf. If he was Viktor's father --she didn't even know his name-- she did not wish to be the reason that harm found him.

They were looking for her? Terrowin looked down at the child in her arms; then up to her face wondering who she was. "I know of somewhere you will be safe." Why would she trust him; he knew not; but he was not a man who could sit by and watch harm come to a woman or a child. No matter the reason.
He reached up and put one hand on her shoulder; "Come; I will lead you." He took her down the street; knowing the safest place would be out of sight until they could get her somewhere of her choosing. "There are so many strangers; you will not be noticed among them." After a few streets; he opened the door on a small wooden and clay home. "Quickly; come in." The home was small on the inside; with a kitchen and table taking up the first room. A fire was no needed since it was warm most night; and if a cool night came then the stove served with enough heat.
"Thea! Come quickly!" He called; then spoke to the noble woman. "My wife can get you some water; or some strew; my lady."

She nodded when he offered her a place where she would be safe gratefully, once she was somewhere out of sight, she could reach out with her mind to one of the birds that circled the harbor, and have them carry a message to Viktor for her. He was too far away for her to touch his mind herself, as she'd tried to when she was first attacked, but a bird could fly over the walls of the castle; no one would think twice about a bird.
"Thank you so much," she told him as he led her to a small building, and she was surprised when she entered to see that it seemed like a home... one that was currently being lived in. She realized guiltily that, despite her words, he had brought her to his own home. He called someone, and she looked at him with a worried expression as he offered to have his wife bring her water or food.
"Thank you for your hospitality, but I do not wish to bring trouble to your family. I should go." She shook her head, even if she didn't have anywhere else to go and no one else that she could trust, she didn't want to put them in danger. Viktor stayed away from his family for that very reason; and now in a single afternoon she might manage to get all of them killed, herself and their son included.

She was speaking of leaving; and they had just arrived to the safety of his home. "It would be unwise to leave; my lady." He told her; waiting for his wife to come to the main room. "The walls hide you; better then your cloak does. Let us send word to your family; help you get safe."
It was then a older woman came to the main room and stopped cold. She looked between her husband and the woman for a moment before walking forward. "This is my wife; Thea." He did not know the noble woman's name; so he could not introduce her more. "Thea; she is lost; I offered our home to her to rest; and will send Connor to her family when he comes by." Thea; looked at the woman and gave a bow; before greeting her with a 'welcome to my home, my lady.'

Syren bit her lip, she knew that what he was saying was true, but she couldn't help feeling guilty. They shouldn't have to contend with her troubles. On top of that, she felt guilty because there was a large part of her that wanted to stay; not to avoid those who would hurt her, but simply because she wanted to get to know these people, if they were Viktor's family, because it was something he was so reluctant to share with her and she was just so curious. But that was selfish, and she tried to ignore it. And failed.
She was still undecided when the woman entered, and Syren looked up to meet her gaze. The woman looked nothing like Viktor, but something else about her appearance startled her. Her eyes. Clear and blue, just like her infant son's eyes; Syren thought that he had got them from her own mother, since both she and Viktor had dark eyes, but there could be no mistake. Jaxon and Thea had the same eyes. Then the man mentioned their son --Connor-- and Syren's eyes went wide. "No, don't do that." She shook her head.
"There's no need to put him in danger. I can get a message to my husband." She told them, calling out to one of the seabirds in her mind, she gave it clear directions; find Viktor, harass him until he followed, and lead him back here. She had nothing to write a message with, so he better just realize it was her when a bird started flapping around his head persistently. "Thank you so very much. My name is Syren, and this is Jaxon." She told them, to change the subject, turning the baby slightly so they could see him. She didn't know what else she could say, to tell them who she was, and then it occurred to her. "This may seem odd...but your daughter. Is her name Cora?"

She seemed against them letting their son go for help; and Terrowin wondered why she was running if she could just get a message to her husband. At least he was not the one after her; for it was not uncommon for husbands to be the ones after women. Then she asked about their daughter. "I have a daughter with such a name;" He looked at his wife then at Syren; "Do you know her?"
Things were becoming up settling; and Terrowin was beginning to try to put things together. She had called him Viktor. Why would she call him such a name? Then know about their daughter. He had a son called Viktor; but they had long since thought him dead. At first hearing rumors of people who had seen him; then nothing. Until today.

Syren shook her head when he told her that he did have a daughter called Cora; it couldn't be a coincidence. That he looked so much like Viktor should be proof enough, but Connor was one of the names he had suggested for their son --although he hadn't mentioned it belonged to his brother-- and Cora, the sister he wished to name their daughter after, if they had a girl. "I don't... but I think I know your son. Viktor."
She bit her lip, wondering if they even had a son called Viktor, and hoping she was right. It made too much sense for her to be wrong, but even so, there was a chance. Jaxon made a quiet, mewling noise, and Syren shifted him in her arms and leaned down to shush him, before he turned to look at the new, strange people gathered around him, feeling secure and curious in his mother's arms. Thea gasped and covered her mouth; reaching over to touch her husband's arm as he looked at Syren--who was CLEARLY a noble woman--while wondering about how she knew their son. They knew some of Viktor's life after he left here; he had take up with men and did things that he had tried to hide from his wife. "We were given to believe that my son was dead; when rumor's of him stopped coming for years on end."
Yet this noble woman knew enough to know his children; and their lives; to know when she had found them. And apparently trusted them enough to return to his home. Was their son one of her guards? How had he gotten into that sort of work? "Please speak plainly; is my son alive?" Terrowin did not keep up with politics of other kingdoms; so knew not of the stolen princess; nor the Winter Land's king's name.

Syren wasn't sure what she was expecting, but it wasn't that. they thought him dead? Viktor had so neglected his own family that they believed him DEAD?! Oh, she was going to have some choice words for him when she saw him next. Or maybe she'd let his family do that for her... considering that he should be on his way here shortly. He asked her to speak plainly, and she swallowed, then nodded.
"I think... that your son is my husband." She answered, somewhat hesitantly, and very seriously, so that they would know that this was not a joke, not a noble playing a cruel joke on a peasant family because she could, like she knew some others liked to do. She was completely seriously. "I mean... you look just like him. When I heard your voice, I thought you were him." She added, to rationalize her claim. He would know that much was true, because she had said Viktor's name before she had even turned.
