She was watching the dragon eat instead of looking up to him, twirling the dragon's tail around her finger loosely, until he turned to snort at her indignantly, and she giggled and let go. She didn't look up at Viktor until he called her name, and she stood from where she was kneeling by the hearth, dusting off her skirt. It seemed that he didn't like to get too close to the dragon, although she wasn't worried about it hurting him. He wasn't scared anymore, in fact, he was quite content, so she doubted he'd lash out unless Viktor made him feel threatened.
"What is it?" She asked as she stepped around the table, wondering if he wanted to ask her more about her desire to go home. Since the death of her father, and her mother's repeated failures to reclaim her, she had her doubts that she would ever return home. It was becoming more and more likely that Viktor would succeed, and the options he had offered her on her first day here ran through her mind. Death, remaining here until the end of her days, or marrying him. The third option...no longer repulsed her the way it once had.

Viktor waited where he was for her to join him; rather then for him to join her. The damn dragon was too close to where she had been. Had the dragon not been beside her; he had gone to her and this would have still played out the same way; but with him making the first move rather then her.
When she came close to him; his hand came out to wrap around her and rest on her back; to pull her in closer while his other hand came up to cup her cheek. He said nothing; as he lowered his head to claim her lips in a kiss. Pulling her tighter into him; he even tried to deepen it; testing the grounds. She had claimed it wasn't so bad here; and he was seeing if he could prove it; more then not so bad. If she was going to stay; he did not see why they could not become something more.

Syren didn't know what she was expecting when he called her over, but it certainly wasn't this. Her eyes fluttered with surprise, but the princess didn't move, she didn't pull away. Should she really be surprised? Not a day had passed since her arrival here that he hadn't invited her, in one way or another, into his bed. She lifted her hands to his chest, although whether it was to push him away or encourage him, she hadn't yet decided.
When he pulled her closer and attempted to deepen the kiss, she gasped and turned her head to the side, breaking the kiss, although she didn't pull away from his embrace. She drew in a slow, shaky breath, looking down and to the side, her heart racing, as she tried to decide how she felt about this. Was this what he expected in return for his 'gift'? Would everything she accepted from him come with such a price tag?

When she turned from him; Viktor stared at her; leaving his face so close to her's that he could inhale the scent of her. He could tell that she did not hate his touch; but nor did he know why the hell she would deny herself the pleasure that he knew he could bring her. To encourage her to not withdrawal from his arms; Viktor used her actions that exposed the skin of her neck and trailed his lips there.
Had the dragon not been in the room; he would have turned her and attempted to press her under him on the table; but turning his back to the creature wasn't a thought that kept his passions going. "Put the creature under lock and key; and then come with me to my bed." He asked of her; "Let me show how to keep warm on a cold night." This being a price for the gift; had never entered his mind. She had given him what he needed to hear; by claiming it was not so bad here. He wanted her to stay; and if she was going to stay he was not going to fight this forever.

His lips on her neck felt nice, but unfortunately, were distracting her from her thoughts. It was too fast, it was all too fast, and while it felt good --the heat from his body, the tickle of his beard against her skin, his hands holding her tight-- it didn't feel right. He may have spoken of his intentions since her arrival, but this was the first time he had acted on them. She hadn't even believed he would, because even a peasant king had to know that one did not simply grab a princess like this, and yet, here she was. Here they were.
She might not even have made him stop (it did feel really good) but then he spoke, and her expression turned to one of horror as he seemed to confirm her dark suspicions. His words didn't seem as a question to her, but an order, and she braced her hands against his chest and she shoved him away from her as hard as she could, her disgust turning to fury. "You think me some common whore, that you can... buy my affections with gifts and then order me to your bed?!" She growled, stepping back away from him. The dragon looked up, catching onto her distress, and abandoned his half-eaten food to scamper over to her, baring his tiny sharp teeth at the man who was causing her distress, but remaining by her ankles protectively. "Price?" He questioned as she kept talking; and calling his invitation an order. Viktor didn't know how she had gotten so mixed up; but his words had been no bloody order; and nor had he EVER had to buy his way into a woman's bed! Before he could rise voice to his intentions; her bloody beast took an interests. Viktor stepped back slowly; and watched it; and waited to make sure it was not going to come at her; or try to char him like it did it's meal. When it only seemed to stand by; he looked back at her.
He was not about to let that thing begin threatening his men; and causing trouble. They would already not be pleased with it running around! If it took to aggression every time someone upset her; then he'd have an up roar on his hands within the week! "Control your beast; or I will see it back in the cells or in the cast out to the snow." It might not be overly affected by the weather but the lack of food would kill it. He knew she had the power to talk to it; and he wasn't sure she was not seeking it's support now. "And just to make us clear; on my intent. The gift came without price; and the invitation was not an order. Nor had I even once hinted that I thought you common." He purposely left out the whore bit; to add insult for injuring his pride and then letting her beast give him the low ground. "Enjoy your meal; Lady Summer; I will send word to you on the rules for your new pet later."
Viktor turned and left the room; deciding it was best to let his head cool before continuing that conversation. He could have hidden his pride and injury behind a humorous joke; and false grin but her damned pet had made sure he lost the high ground. He would seek her out later; give her the rules.

She didn't notice that the dragon had joined them until Viktor started backing away from her, and then she was slightly glad for it. She didn't like the idea of using the dragon as a weapon, but having it's protection gave her at least a little bit of power, some of what she'd lost since being here. She bent over and picked the dragon up when he told her to control her beast, cradling the baby protectively, she had to calm her own thoughts before she could try to calm the beast's defensive nature, which kept her silent as Viktor spoke of his intentions.
She believed him, but she was too incensed to say so. It was still insulting that he seemed to think her willing to spread her legs so easily! Instead she shot him a glare, turning her back to him as he left the room and looking instead to the baby dragon, who she was still trying to convince not to try to bite Viktor if he got the chance. He didn't like the Winter King, and she couldn't blame him, but she knew it would be worse for the baby dragon than the man if he did attack him. Once the king had left, she took a deep breath and took the dragon back to his food, stroking his back to calm him until he was willing to finish eating. When he had finished, she took him back to her room without touching her own food.
Tired from eating so much, she tucked the dragon into her bed, before she curled up in a chair by the fire to wait for Viktor to send his messenger with her 'rules', as he put it. She had always disregarded his rules in the past, but if she went against him on this, she feared he'd take it out on the baby dragon. He was always very lenient with her, but she doubted he would be when it was the creature who would suffer.

The gift had served as a good idea; which lead to expressing feelings; and for bad endings. It left Viktor feeling out of sorts; and trying to decide how to handle the woman who saw a kiss; and offer of more as him making her a whore. He saw two adults taking pleasure in being alive; and she saw a dirty old man and a disgraced woman! He sent her his rules; and made sure they were clear deciding it best to keep himself away from her; until he could decide on what he wanted from her; and what he was willing to offer. Clearly the two adults idea; was shameful!
Rule one; the dragon could only be out of her room if she was with it. There was a smaller courtyard near the east corridors; and she could use that in the hours between breakfast and supper; but nor before or after. He left out the reason for this was because it was where he took Artemis to stretch her wings; and he did so before breakfast; and after supper. Rule two; she was not getting more furnishings for her rooms; so the dragon better not ruin any of it. Same for clothing. Rule three; food would be delivered for the dragon; and she was still expected to show up at dinner.
It was all he had for now; so once he sent his man with the rules; he sought out his bird. She was on her perch in his rooms; and he walked forward to touch her fathers in a caress like Syren had shown him Artemis liked. "Your a traitor; you know that." He told her bird; but without any heat of anger. "Come;" In truth; he was pleased in knowing that there was loyalty there. Taking the bird he took her to the snow filled courtyard to let her fly around; and perch in the tree. She had nest there; built with sticks he had brought for her. Leaning by the door; with the touch near for the small warmth it offered he watched Artemis as she circled the tree; and then landed before doing the same again.

Syren had poured herself a drink to calm the nerves while she waited for the message to arrive, and when it didn't come, she had another. And another. She was getting used to this stiff Winter Land stuff; and even beginning to develop a taste for it... but only as something to warm her up in the cold. By the time the messenger arrived, she was starting to feel the effects of the drink; a little tingling in her muscles, a slight fog in her mind; and a deep desire to tell Viktor off for thinking he could just take her virtue so easily.
"Where is the king?" She demanded of the servant, who told her he was in the courtyard he'd described. She pulled on the coat she'd neglected to return earlier and, after checking to make sure the dragon was sound asleep and not likely to cause trouble in her absence, she left her room to go find him.
She found him just where the messenger said he would be, and she paused in the doorway. His back was to her, watching his bird fly above. Her desire to tell him off softened at the sight of the bird, as she remembered how fondly Artemis regarded her master, and she remembered that he wasn't cruel... and she doubted he'd intended to insult her. "Viktor," she called to him, closing the door behind herself, she approached him, although now that she was here she didn't know what exactly she should say.

He had been leaning there; near the touch for warmth but at the sight of her; he pushed to a stand; tossing his head back to clear the hair from it. While the mess of tangles was not fashionable in her world; here it helped keep a man warm. "Lady Summer; come to play in the snow." The words were not spoken in anger; but with a softness. He only called her Lady Summer when he wanted distance between them or he was annoyed her with her.
Stepping closer to where she was he waited to see what mood she brought with her; the snow going a long way to cool the desire that had given him anger earlier. Cold weather; worked like cold water at times. "You come absent pet; so I am assume that it is I you are looking for?" Was he here to refuse his rules; to agree to them; or just to test his temper again?

She had never taken offense to him calling her Lady Summer, although she supposed he meant it as an insult; he called her by name when he seemed pleased, so this must mean he was still upset with her. She took a page from his book and smiled with something like amusement. "Lord Winter," she turned it back on him, and dipped into a mocking curtsy, although she was feeling more jovial than spiteful.
When he commented on the lack of her draconic companion, she shrugged. "Babies need lots of sleep, you know." She didn't say anything about his rules; she didn't mind them, they were more reasonable than she expected. No mandate to keep him chained up or caged, so she was happy enough to keep them. "And I realized I forgot to return your coat." Although she made no move to remove it now, since they were outside and she might freeze out here without it.

She mocked his own mocking of her; and Viktor felt a bit of the injured pride slip away with her bow. "This is a king you are mocking;" He reminded her; but did not seek to tell her that she should bow before no man; for he would see her above all others. But instead of allowing him close; she cried whore and clung to her maidenly ways. She was princess to the grandest kingdom there was; if you believed the stories. It was why he had wanted it; that and the fact they were the ones who exiled him here.
She spoke of his coat and pulled his mind from the prize. "The arms are sewn thicker then normal coats of this area; to allow for Artemis to rest there without killing my arm." It had taken him a few weeks to learn that was what it took; and he had a few small scars from the markings of having nothing to protect his skin. "If you keep wishing to pretend that beast is a babe then you might have need it more then I." He was telling her to keep it; because he knew his skin was thicker then her's; and if a smaller creature had cut skin; he knew the dragon would as well.

She raised her eyebrows at him when he accused her of mocking a king, and then laughed softly. "King Winter?" She amended her earlier statement, wondering if that would soothe his ego. He claimed to be a king but he acted like no king she had ever met; although his behavior might resemble that of a few boorish nobles she had known. "Most of the kings I know would not dishonor a lady by testing her virtue." Her smile fell off slightly, she didn't want to start a fight, but she thought he ought to know why she was so offended.
He spoke of the coat's make and at first she didn't understand why, but she did smile when he spoke of how she might need it more than he. Did that mean he trusted her not to run away again? She didn't even argue when he called her little dragon a 'beast', although she knew he would never hurt her, maybe he was right, as the dragon got bigger, maybe she would need some protection from accidental injuries. "Thank you," she nodded gratefully.

She spoke of virtue. "That is something seen differently in the north. It is not a prize; as it is in the south. Life is too short here; no one cares were comfort; or warmth; is found as long as no wives are unfaithful." Or husbands; he used the term wife loosely as it could mean either. The women in this lands had to grow strong in order to survive. He would not be surprised if a wife took her vengeance on a man for straying. Just as in any other land; people married. There were the women who lived for coin; and the women who married and raised children. On either side did one look at unwed women shamefully. Women were in short supply here; men were smarter then to pertinently offend them.
"I have never made it a secret that I want you in my bed; Syren. Do not mistake every gift given as a whore's price; and my words as a command. You have never done so before." He's threaten; bullied; and used his bed to toss in her face since the moment she awoken. It was only when she became tempted that she told him he was ordering her. He knew she was tempted; he could tell that much from her reactions. "A simple no would have done just as well; if you truly did not wish to join me."

"I am not from the north." She reminded him, and no matter how long she lived here, she would not change her mind about this. She was sure there were women here who felt the same, even if there were those who did not. She didn't care what they believed, however. She would adhere to her own morals, regardless of what was normal here. "And it is not a prize to be won. It's more important to me than simply comfort or warmth." He might value the base needs and desires above such abstract things as honor, but she did not.
When he claimed that she had never read into his actions like this before, she bristled slightly. "The only time you have suggested I join you has been to either cow me into obedience or to make me uncomfortable. You have never made an honest advance before. And you have never given me such a gift as this; nor have you have ever acted on your desire. Is it so strange that I might link the two?" The only things he had given her before were food and clothing, nothing that she wanted rather than needed. Nothing like the dragon. And his words had not sounded like a question to her; but a command. "Whether I wished to join you or not is of no consequence. I will not lie with a man to whom I am not married."

"Married?" He questioned in a tone of surprise; not having seen her price as so high. She claimed he would be bought with no price; but clearly she failed to see it as he did. A prince of being queen; was how he would get in her bed. Fond of her he might be--very fond of her--he was not sure of marriage to a woman who only half liked it here. Not so bad; she called it. She had not said anything of him either.
He watched her face for a long moment before lifting his head up to her chin; and lowering his head just enough to almost kiss her. It was too cold out for a kiss; for they could freeze together; and that would be something his men would laugh at. "If you change your mind; you know where to find me." Dropping his hand; he stepped back and turned to look up at Artemis; then back down at her. He was not going to make a fool of himself and be turned down twice in one day.

Syren didn't consider marriage a price; she considered it a promise. A promise of loyalty, companionship, unity. That her marriage to him would make her a queen was something she had considered, but if he did not wish to be committed to her for the rest of their lives, then she did not wish to have him. He lifted her chin and she could feel the heat of his breath on her face against the cold, and he thought that he might try to kiss her again, but instead he spoke. As he backed away, she gave him a slightly disappointed, innocent look from under her eyelashes.
"That is a shame," she said softly, taking a step backwards, she clasped her hands behind her back. "And you know where to find me if you change yours." She said simply, and maybe it was the alcohol, but she winked at him mischievously and smiled suggestively, before she turned on her heel and walked back towards the door, her hips swaying seductively as she strolled away from him. A shame? He watched her as she continued on and spoke of if he changed his mind. "You speak as if you have wish for such a thing." She wanted to marry him? If he changed his mind then she would wed him? Viktor found it hard to believe that a woman would wed a man she did not love for the sake of her virtue. Was this the life of a noble? Or did she feel something for him?
He thought of finding her int he snow; and the challenge of their time together. He favored her; and the thought of her death was enough to drive him to drink. He enjoyed their time together when they did not fight. Stepping closer; he closed the distance between them. "Tell me; Little Mage; what meaning is there behind your words? Do you wish to be the Winter Queen?"

She didn't look back even as he spoke of what she might wish for, wondering herself if she did. She had liked it when he kissed her, and she liked him, despite all the reasons she had not to. He was a good man, and she smiled when she saw him unexpectedly, looked forward to seeing him at dinner. She wasn't sure if she loved him, though. But being his queen would also mean she could go home if he claimed Summer Land. That might seem like a shallow reason for marrying him, but... it was something to consider.
She heard his footsteps crunching in the snow behind her, reaching her as she reached the door, and she turned around to face him, leaning back against the wooden door. Her eyes scanned him up and down as she considered for a very long moment, biting her lip thoughtfully. Finally looking up to his eyes, she reached out and grabbed hold of the front of his coat, and pulled him closer, so their faces were as close as they had been a moment before. "You are not the only one with desires, Winter King."

Fuck it; he was about to turned down a second time in one day. He knew it; he knew she knew it; but he didn't care. The chance that she would allow it; was worth the risk that she wouldn't. One of his hand's pushed the door opened behind her; and he walked her backwards until they were near the wall; where the touches warmed the hall slightly. Not enough for warmth; but enough so that their lips would not freeze together.
Pressing her there; he took her face within in hands; standing there he looked down into her face; and claimed her lips. Moving his hands to her shoulders; he did not let her pull back until he had let it deepen; and her taste filled his mouth. When he pulled his head back; to again look down at her; he spoke. "If wanting to bed someone; was reason enough to wed; then every boy in their teens would have wives." But it was not enough of a reason; "When I find a queen for this land; it will be a woman who wishes to stand beside me in both the daylight; and night. One who will serve the kingdom I have built; not another."
Brushing her hair back; he let that hang between them for a moment before talking. "When you change your mind; you know where to find me."
